Truesong Tech: "I recently set up Arch Linux (which is awesome, by the way) on my laptop, and noticed a bit of a problem... despite my resolution, 1680x1050, which usually makes fonts look tiny, all of my system fonts were huge."

Image "PCLinuxOS was founded in October 2003. The flagship product, the PCLinux operating system, is a free, easy-to-use Linux-based operating system for the home. PCLinuxOS was founded by Texstar, and is headquartered in Houston, Tx." from the official PCLinuxOS website. PCLinuxOS has become really popular in only a few years.

What should I know about PCLinuxOS?

PCLinuxOS is a derivative of Mandrake (now Mandriva) Linux. "The precursor to PCLinuxOS was a set of RPM packages created to improve successive versions of Mandrake Linux..." PCLinuxOS maintains its own set of repositories. It uses the Advanced Packaging Tool (APT) and the synaptic package manager front end for package retrieval and installation. It comes with its own menu, custom graphics, and icon sets. Beryl and Compiz come pre-installed, and they can be configured with the PCLOS Control Center. The primary desktop is KDE; however, as of late 2007, a Gnome edition of PCLinuxOS has been released; it comes with the latest Beta release of Gnome 2.22.
