The BBC Underestimates the Number of Linux Users Maybe they weren't trying to offend the tens of thousands of Linux users that go to their site, when the BBC said that only 400-600 people that view their site are using Linux, but they sure as heck did offend.
After citing that there were only 400-600 linux users on the BBC website, a petition was started by the Linux community. It wasn't long before the the number of people listed on the petition exceeded 2,000. Could it just be a bunch of Linux goons writing their names multiple times? The BBC better hope so. The Linux community is already frustrated with the BBC over the company's new iPlayer software, which lets users of the site watch BBC content over the web. This iPlayer application is built solely for windows. When nearly every other network website is using OS-independent software such as flash player, why is the BBC making their own proprietary software? We, at LinuxHow2, have heard that even Mac users (you know, those people who pay lots of money for the same core Linux operating system the rest of us get for free or very little money) are angry about the BBC's windows-only policy.
