Released last Friday, the latest version of KDE has hit the Linux world. After the release of Trolltech's QT 4, it was only a matter of time before the newest version of KDE would come out. Sporting some glitz and glammer from current distros of Linux, the KDE 4 interface is welcome advancement in the desktop world.
The ISO community will hold a vote for OOXML around Feb 29th 2008 in Geneva. These are the folks that set industry standards for nearly everything from how CDs are made to the equipment used to harvest grain. On that faithful day they will be voting whether OOXML should become a standard in the PC world for XML or not.
Earlier reports that the OLPC had teamed up with Microsoft to create a true dual-boot Laptop featuring both Linux and Windows have been revealed as false.
The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) group and Microsoft are teaming up to bring Linux and Windows together on a dual-boot laptop. The laptops are intended to be largely used for children in third world nations, where computers and technology are often scarce. Is this a sign of Microsoft's willingness to work shoulder to shoulder with Linux? Or is it Microsoft's fear that a whole new burgeoning world of future IT professionals from other countries might grow up addicted to Linux instead of Windows?
At CES, the Consumer Electronics Association, Everex introduced its new Linux-driven, gOS 2.0, laptop, the CloudBook Ultra-Mobile PC. As with previous Everex PCs, the new laptop will go on sale at Wal-Mart; it will be priced at only $400.
