I want to write mail to, chat with, talk to, and have video conferences with real people without worrying about applications and technology."

StumbleUpon!

Vista I, like many people, started working with PCs before there was Windows (or Microsoft for that matter), and as the times changed, I adapted to the new OS and subsequently became a Windows user. When OS/3 Warp came out, I temporarily switched, it was a much better OS at the time, and it had crash protection (where the system would recover itself from hard system crashes. It was truly artful!)

In my opinion, Microsoft hit a sweet spot with Windows 3.11, and I must admit that I was a huge fan of that OS; it was fast and stable. But since Windows 3.11, I kept being disappointed by each new Microsoft OS, and with each progression, I kept noticing that each new update was more and more unstable than the last one. There is no exception to Windows Vista, which I regard as the worst OS in history (even worse than Windows ME, you ask? Yes, even worse). This OS is a resource hog, and it has caused countless people to purchase expensive hardware upgrades just to maintain the same level of performance. Not only is this wasteful, but imagine the environmental impact as well.

Ever since my brother purchased a new PC preload with Vista, he has had nothing but problems with it, and these are common issues with the OS, such as: VERY poor memory management, even poorer CPU utilization (which enviably leads to the blue screen of death), and get this Vista still allows itself to be fragmented (a problem that does not affect the average Linux user).

I became a Linux fanboy back in November of 2006, when I was building a new PC. I went to go purchase Vista with a copy of Microsoft Office, and the price for the software alone was going to set me back $1100! There was no way in hell I was going to spend that kind of money on software. So instead, I chose to try Fedora Core 6, and I was hooked. Now I had an OS I was not utterly disappointed with, and IT WORKED. With windows, I always had driver issues, but since I switched to Linux, I don't have to mess with any drivers anymore, it's all managed automatically, which was a huge relief. Don't let me forget to mention that there was a Linux version for every application that I needed. Yeah, sure, they had different names; for example; Windows has Photoshop, and Linux has Gimp (which once you try it out, imho, you will realize it is better than Photoshop for just about everything).

To summarize I am much happier with my switch to Linux, now that I am set free from Microcrap, Spyware, Viruses, and Security issues, which affect the Windows OS but not the Linux OS. Also, why would I ever need Microcrap anyway? I can get any Windows software to work under Linux anyway using Wine. I have all my games under Steam, and I get better frame rates faking Windows on Linux than using pure Windows. Now, that's something to think about. If you could improve your overall PC performance, why wouldn't you switch to a flavor of Linux? Don't be the lazy American! Put that brain to work just like you did when you were learning how to use Windows XP – what are you chicken? Learn Linux – Save Money – Improve Performance!
