Adam Williamson, Mandriva's Community Manager, has just announced the availability of the second alpha release of Mandriva 2008. Mandriva is one of the hottest Linux distros, almost always in the top ten most viewed sites at DistroWatch.com.
Mandriva, the France-based Linux distributor, has announced the availability of a new pre-release candidate. "The second pre-release of Mandriva Linux 2008.1 is here. This pre-release brings a near-final snapshot of KDE 4.0 (final 4.0 packages are currently being uploaded to the Cooker repositories), new NVIDIA and ATI drivers, the chance to test the experimental Nouveau open source driver for NVIDIA cards, kernel 2.6.24-rc7, and more," from Mandriva's release announcement. If you have an Nvidia or ATI video card, you're going to be excited about this new release of Mandriva; "this pre-release includes 169.07 of the NVIDIA proprietary driver and version 8.44.3 (Catalyst 7.12) of the ATI proprietary driver. These provide performance improvements, bug fixes, and support for the latest cards released by both manufacturers," according to Mandriva's release notes. KDE 4.0 will also be available with this release of Mandriva. This is one of the first distros to bring support to the new KDE desktop.
