The New Topyli Standard: "This article is a humble opinion piece of a GNOME user who wishes to stop using communication software and just be in touch with people. Ashley Highfield, Divisional Director of the BBC Future Media and Technology Division, came forward on the BBC Internet Blog and apologized for offending the open source and Linux communities.

Stating that the "vast majority of [the BBC's website] is powered by open source components...", Highfield pled his case to the open source community that the BBC was committed to utilizing open source components.

Many commenters to the blog stressed that Highfield had avoided a direct response to the original comment that caused the BBC to offend so many open source users, when he had originally stated there were only 400-600 Linux users on the BBC website. Others noted that the blog had become a discussion of the use of digital rights management on the BBC website; its use of proprietary software that excludes most open source users from accessing key components of the website.
