Check out this open letter to Mark Shuttleworth, the Ubuntu Linux Project founder. Apparently, a lot of people are up in arms over all the versions of Ubuntu out there.

What does everyone else think? Is there too much Ubuntu in the world?

A lot of people thought we were nuts to present the idea of consolidating the Ubuntu distros into a simple package system. Here's a website that argues why it's a bad idea of lump them together, http://linuxtoday.com/news_story.php3?ltsn=2008-01-27-003-26-OP-DB-SW, I tend to disagree with their logic.
