 We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be using Windows, and Microsoft Office, and DRM. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off. F*@# off with your MS Windows and its ribbon interface, I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say let...let's evolve, let the chips fall where they may. Advertising has us chasing after Aero interfaces, working jobs we hate so we can buy s@#$ we don't need. In the world I see - you are using Linux in the open community centers around the ruins of price gouging software vendors. You'll use PCs that will last you the rest of your life. You'll take elevators up through the buildings of open source corporations. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures using Gnome, sitting at KDE desktops.  What is QEMU? It's a free software "processor emulator", which means it's capable of running applications written for other systems natively on your current operating system. The QEMU virtual CPU core library is released underneath the GNU LGPL. QEMU is capable of running a guest operating system on top of your current operating system, in the same manner as applications such as VirtualBox OSE and Vmware Workstation. At its current state, QEMU is capable of launching Linux or Darwin/Mac OS X processes compiled for one CPU on another CPU; it can also boot a myriad of guest operating systems, including Linux, Microsoft Windows, DOS, Solaris, and BSD. Hardware platforms, such as x86, amd64, alpha, mips, and sparc can be emulated. QEMU can be installed from most of the Linux packaging systems.

The embedded Linux revolution is well underway taking a strong foot hold in everything from GPS devices to cell phones and there are even those who install Linux on their iPods. Linux will be a part of everyones life in no time. In fact most people encounter Linux everyday in one form or another from cashiers, car navigation systems, and there is even a team at Calvin College building a Linux based stethoscope! There is no denying it Linux is here to stay and will increasingly become more and more unavoidable in daily life. 
The 80GB PS3 can now be bought pre-installed with 
Ubuntu Server Edition attempts to put a powerful Linux server into the hands of anyone willing to try. They make the claim that you can install the whole sever, including LAMP (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP), in about 15 min. I had to try it out for myself. So, I downloaded a copy of the Server edition and booted it up on my 5 year-old notebook to see what would happen (yes, I know, a notebook is an odd machine to make into a web server). For those interested, the specs on the notebook: P4 1.8Ghz with 1GB of memory and a 40GB drive. Keep in mind, it's 5 years old.
